MSPAF has character
metastuck: On a fundamental level, MSPAF is an incredibly polite, friendly young man who just wants everyone around him to get along. The fact that the fanbase is so split up and antagonistic is incredibly distressing to him. To this end, he thinks the best way to keep everyone happy is to move lockstep with the (perceived) wishes of The Storyteller and His Enforcers. He is always sure to read...

MSPAccess, an MSPA Navigation tool for Chrome (AND...
I decided to reread Homestuck in the interim before EoA5 gets released so I made this little google chrome extension for navigating the pages more easily. You can use the left and right arrows go to backwards and forwards and the 0 key on the numpad to open and close pesterlogs. It’s lightweight and makes fullscreen couch reading a lot more fun. EDIT: Here’s a Greasemonkey script for...

A final word on the Ludum Dare competition.
So looks like my first attempt at this was a failure. Maybe next time I’ll plan better, either way it was a fun experience. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish it to my satisfaction before the Jam deadline (tonight at 10 eastern) so I’m just going to relax and finish the game at my own pace. I’ll post the final results here.

Ludum Dare 21 - Day 3
LATEST VERSION (Sunday 10:45 PM) Sunday, 11:02 AM: So I didn’t get to sleep until about 5 AM last night but here I am, rested (ha) and ready to go. I’m almost done my rewrite of the engine so I’m going to finish that first and then post a new update. Sunday, 12:00 PM: Yay, I finally got the engine rewritten and this time it works perfectly! (As far as I can tell). I also made...

Ludum Dare 21 - Day 2
LATEST VERSION (Sunday 10:45 PM) Saturday, 8:45 AM: I consider this an early start, taking into account the fact that I was drinking last night. I’m going to see about getting an engine started right now. I’ll be making the game in Adobe Flash and Actionscript 3.0. Here we go. Saturday, 10:30 AM: So I’ve started on the engine, not much to report. Mostly just physics stuff so...

Ludum Dare 21 - Day 1
This weekend (Starting Friday the 19th at 10PM Easter) will be the Ludum Dare 48 Hour Game Design Competition. I’ll be taking part along with some friends of mine from school. The final round of voting has begun for the theme. I’m doubtful that I’ll actually finish a game in 48 hours but I plan to take part in the Game Jam which gives you an extra day to polish your work. I plan to use this post...

Wow, my Congastuck post managed to get me a traffic increase of (at this moment) 2,418.75%! (I really like Google analytics for useless but fun data like this). Before today I didn’t know what reblogs and likes looked like on the Tumblr dashboard. Now I do! Thanks everyone who liked what I made. I guess I’ll post my Homestuck stuff here more often! I’m also glad to see...

Homestrife 4 1/3 or How I Learned to Stop Worrying...
Lately I have been taking part in a fan community game development project called Homestrife (Full title in logo). It’s been a lot of fun so I thought I’d share what we have so far and talk a little about the process. First of all, if you’re not already aware, the game is based on Homestuck, a webcomic type thing created by Andrew Hussie as part of his MS Paint Adventures...

Simply Devastated
I was casually fooling around with my google account when I remembered I had Google analytics set up for this blog, needless to say the 18% drop in readership over the last 30 days is highly disturbing! I don’t even know how an 18% drop is possible since I have less than 5 readers… Oh well, now’s not the time to worry about math, I have to create content! So how about a life...

No Excuses
Yeah, I don’t want to hear it hypothetical reader. I haven’t updated in more than two months. I could apologize profusely for the rest of this update but that wouldn’t be fun for anyone so I’m just going to write… So there have been some major changes in my life recently. For one, I got a coop job at Research in Motion as a Conceptual Interface Designer. Secondly, I...

Steam, why hast thou forsaken me?
It’s no secret that I love video games. I may not have mentioned however that my preferred platform is the PC. It’s for this reason that the holidays are a difficult time for me. Steam, the premier downloadable game platform for pc games, has an annual sale and this is the first year I have found myself with a credit card and money in the bank so I have to fight the urge to buy...

Two posts in two days? WHAAAAAT!
I don’t know how I will ever scrape together the content to write a post but here I go. I’m just gonna do a few short topics. Each paragraph is a self contained idea so don’t expect any kind of clarity. So who is reading my blog from California? I’m just curious. Google analytics shows 1 reader from San Francisco and as far as I know I don’t know anyone from there....

Oh, is this still here?
Wow, is this blog still around? I had totally assumed that the author like died or got a social life or something. Weird. Oh well, lets see what he has to say this time. Okay, he’s apologizing for not updating in forever. Jeez that’s original. Like every other crappy blogger on the planet doesn’t make a habit of doing that. Okay, he’s recapping the intervening month...

Drowning in Social Media Buzzwords
So as I mentioned in previous posts, I’m currently doing my first coop work term at a big company in downtown Vancouver. My job is a little hard to describe thoroughly but essentially I’m here to coach them on how they can use Social Media to improve their company’s internal and external image. The result of this is that I spend a lot of time looking at social media, researching...

Motivation
So with my last blog post my traffic absolutely spiked to the highest single day traffic since I started blogging. Nine! That’s right, nine whole people came to this humble little site in the span of 24 hours and, presumably, read the latest blog post. Google analytics says that they spent an average of 1:36 seconds, most of them around 1 pm local time. I don’t know what I did to...

You'd think that I'd learn...
Okay okay okay, seriously, it’s been a month? What the heck have I been doing? Oh right, sitting on my ass wondering what I should write about. Guess it’s time for another catch up post. Games: I’ve been playing a fair amount of Starcraft II, not enough to get out of the bronze league mind you but still, a fair amount. I’ve also been playing a lot of Minecraft with my...

My Blog is the Blog that will pierce the heavens!
… or not, it depends on if I have the will to update it more than once a month. So in the event that the title of this post is completely alien to you then clearly you have not seen Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Four words my spell check hates for obvious reasons. TTGL is an anime whose soul function is to outdo everything every other giant robot anime has ever tried to do. The battles in the...

My Appropriately Titled Blog
To be honest I had a tough time coming up with the name for this blog, I’m pretty sure that I summed it up pretty well though. I am really not a very good blogger and nobody should follow my example, particularly when it comes to updates. My last actual update was 3 weeks ago and it’s not like stuff hasn’t been happening to me. I’m going to go ahead and list some of the...

IOS4 has Resurrected my iPod
I haven’t been using my iPod much lately. I synced the other day and saw more than 50 unlistened to podcasts waiting for me. I installed IOS4 today though and suddenly I find myself trolling the app store for good deals and reopening apps I haven’t used for months. Amazing how a bit of new firmware can be so fun. I just wish they’d given me home screen backgrounds on my iPod...

Wordworks: My First Foray Into Real Game Design
So as some of my friends here may know I’ve recently been working on a flash game, my first flash game to be precise, to try to make a bit of extra money while I’m in school. My girlfriend Samantha has been taking care of the art and music while I’ve been doing the design and programming. I’m happy to say that the game is now complete and I’d really appreciate it if...

Lost: Beginning to End
It’s official, Lost is over. I’m not gonna talk too much about my theories and speculation because honestly I feel that it wrapped itself up rather nicely. I don’t think they could have possibly done a better job with it. That being said, I look forward to the Hurley and Ben’s Fantasy Island spinoff…

GDC Canada 2010
So it’s been a while since I’ve posted here so I thought I’d drop by and post some of my reactions and experiences from the Game Developers Conference of Canada 2010 which ended last Friday. For the last two years now I’ve volunteered at the conference. Volunteering is a great opportunity and I suggest that others look into this option for future conferences. I worked a...

Dark Tower Trilogy on the way.
In case you’ve never heard of it, The Dark Tower is author Stephen King’s magnum opus, a series of seven novels who’s events span King’s multiverse touching many of his other stories along the way such as The Stand and Salem’s Lot to name a few. The script will be written by Akiva Goldsman and Rod Howard will direct. To be honest I’m not totally happy with this...
